Apophysis Tutorial - Saving and Rendering

When you have a flame that you really like you will want to save the parameters. Click on "File" in the main window then "Save Parameters".

When the "save parameters" dialogue window opens go to "file name:" and if necessary browse to the Apophysis folder. Type in a new file name after the Apophysis 2.0 backslash then .flame which is the extension used for flame fractals ie.

.....\Apophysis 2.0\your_file_ name.flame

The file name I gave to store this flame parameter was "space_flames.flame".

In the "Title" dialogue box I named this particular flame "chaos". Click "Save". The parameters have now been saved. You can save other flames to this parameter file name or create a different one if you wish.

Later if you wish to call up this flame to further mutate etc. click on "File" then "Open". If necessary browse to the "Apophysis 2.0" folder. You should see your saved flame parameter. Click on the parameter then on "open". The main window in Apophysis will now list your saved flame.

If you wish to render your flame and save as an image, click on the gear button . A "Render to Disk" dialogue box will appear. In the Destination File Name box browse to the file you wish to save your image in.

Enter in the width and height you would like your image.

I find my flames render very nicely using a sample density of between 400 and 600. Others use a sample density of 2000. The higher the setting the better the definition of the flame.

Click the "Render" button. Depending on the size of the image you may want to do something else while you wait.

To view your image after it has finished rendering and been saved, you will need a graphics programme like Photoshop, PaintShop Pro, PhotoImpact etc. to open it. Or, If you don't have those, download The Gimp or Irfanview for free.
